In 1888, a few determined women went door to door in horse and buggy to gather support for the first YWCA in St. Joseph. Now more than 128 years later, we are still dedicated to our mission of eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. Today we invite you to become a part of who we are as we carry out this critical mission.
We’ve succeeded beyond our expectations because each new generation of women has been willing to courageously step in with vision and leadership. Literally thousands of women have found hope for situations that at first seemed hopeless through services provided by the YWCA of St. Joseph. They’ve also been given the courage to believe their dreams could become a reality, and help to take the first steps toward that new reality.
Today, the YWCA of St. Joseph is more than 128 years old, and we are more excited than ever to be part of an organization that radiates compassion, vision and leadership for women and families. We are also proud to commemorate more than 100 years in our current building at 8th and Jules, standing strong as a beacon of hope and a place where thousands of women and children have taken steps toward a fresh new future.
