The YWCA CHOICES program works with at-risk middle school girls in St. Joseph.

CHOICES is an eight-week life skills program offered by the YWCA in collaboration with the MWSU Women’s Athletic Department and the St. Joseph Public School system. It is for 7th-grade girls at all four middle schools: Bode, Robidoux, Spring Garden and Truman.

Transitioning from elementary school to middle school can be difficult. The CHOICES curriculum addresses issues facing adolescent girls and helps the girls make good life choices.

Mentors from the MWSU Women’s Athletics Department meet with the 7th-grade girls in small groups to discuss challenging situations openly and honestly. The athletes and girls form trusting friendships.
